YELLOWSTONE + GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARKS

In June, I traveled with 13 women to Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park. Our two guides were Debby, head of Momma Bear Adventures, and her assistant, Pat.

Yellowstone is located in the northwest corner of Wyoming extending into Montana and Idaho. It was established in 1872 and was the first national park in the United States. The Park is known for its many geothermal areas and wildlife. Below are images from Yellowstone and the surrounding areas (click on image to enlarge)

At Yellowstone, we stayed just outside the park at Shoshone Lodge & Guest Ranch. They have really nice cabins, a main lodge with a front desk, souvenir shop and a restaurant/bar with amazing food and drink. We ate dinner here twice and breakfast once. They also have wranglers who take care of the horses and lead guided rides for guests. I did a mini session with wrangler Will one morning as he was readying the horses for a trail ride.

Loved everything about this place! It was quintessential Wyoming. Each cabin had a porch with comfortable rocking chairs. The perfect place to rest, converse and enjoy a cocktail after a long day hiking.

After a few days in Yellowstone we packed up and headed to Grand Teton NP located in northwestern Wyoming ten miles south of Yellowstone. The showcase of the park are the major peaks of the 40-mile-long Teton Range. The majestic Teton Range has a highly visible presence in the park. The Park is named after Grand Teton, the highest peak in the range with an elevation of 13,775 feet.

Wild flower season runs from June thru mid-July in Yellowstone and May thru September in Grand Teton NP. The flowers were beautiful and put an exclamation point on the landscape!

One of the highlights of the trip was getting up before dawn and heading out into the park in search of grizzly 399 and her four yearlings. We were successful!

Once again, a memorable trip with a great group of women. In the last picture (below) our group (minus myself): backrow standing (from l-r): Pat, Rosie, Denise, Sue, Julie, Nancy, Marilyn, Debby & Annette. Front row kneeling (from l-r): Mary, Debbie, Deb & Gina.
